Following the service manual to change any part is always the best method to get the desired results for any repair. Sometimes there are a few tricks that get learned along the way. Here's one that makes adjusting the air gap for the ignition module easier. Slide the coil up on its mounts and snug the mounting screws. Turn the flywheel until the magnet is directly under the ignition module. Insert a standard paper business card between the ignition module and the coil, then loosen the mounting screws. The module will be pulled down tightly by the magnet. Tighten the module mounting screws. Now rotate the flywheel to remove the business card. Most air gap settings are around .008" -.010," the same thickness as a standard paper business card. Quick and easy, and you don't have to fight using a steel feeler gauge around a magnet. To be truly accurate you can measure the thickness of the business card with a micrometer, or check the gap with a feeler gauge afterwards.
