But you are correct, the newer ones with the viewing screen, are way better. Cause without it, it's a shot in the dark, where you're actually videoing...
I had an original GoPro about 6yrs ago and you are correct about it being a shot in the dark where the camera is pointing. Just a couple degrees is the difference between a cool shot and worthless video. The one I just got can also be set to record hanging upside down, we gave it a test run last night and had it hanging upside down on the windshield and it worked really well.
