I don't use anything but the bristle discs. Not only do they not wear off metal, if any of the rubber particles get left inside, they aren't as likely to cause issues like grit from an abrasive disc WILL cause damage. They aren't cheap though, that is true..... but if used properly they last a very long time. I can rebuild a big diesel motor and only completely use up one disc.
