Default Predicament with the 1641

Hey Everyone! I don't think I've posted here for at least over a year, but I'm in a bit of a predicament. As some of you may recall, I have a 1641 with about 1200 hours on it. I replaced head gaskets three years ago. The following year, I did all the fuel lines, and pulled the fenders, and did the tank, bung etc...

Anyway, last year toward the end of the mowing season, she started to bog down on me again. I hadn't had any time to get to it, but messed with valves, Carb, and whatever else I could manage. I would up taking it to a guy I know, to have the Carb rebuilt. I got a call saying it was running great, but that now it wouldn't move. He drained the hydraulic oil, and refilled, and replaced filter. I asked if he used the actual Cub filter. He said he drained what he put in, and used a thicker oil, and a different filter, but that it wasn't doing anything. He drained that through a screen, and caught a spring, and piece of copper.

So, my question: is that part of the Hydrostatic transmission? Or have I missed something. I'm not sure it's worth rebuilding, if that's the case. He said he'd be interested in it for the motor, if I were to get rid of it... Any thoughts?
