He drained the hydraulic oil, and refilled, and replaced filter. I asked if he used the actual Cub filter. He said he drained what he put in, and used a thicker oil, and a different filter, but that it wasn't doing anything. He drained that through a screen, and caught a spring, and piece of copper.

So, my question: is that part of the Hydrostatic transmission? Or have I missed something. I'm not sure it's worth rebuilding, if that's the case. He said he'd be interested in it for the motor, if I were to get rid of it... Any thoughts?

I think he sabotaged your tranny to get the engine.
