That sucks for sure Jon. Been there done that. Put a cam in a 671 DD one time and thought the thrust washers were a little tight on the cam gear, but stuck it together anyway thinking it would wear in. WRONG! It seized and broke a few teeth on the cam gear and a couple off the idler. Luckily I hadn't pulled out of the lot yet on the road test. I was just coming around the back gate and WHAMO !
