The later MTD built '82 series, and on, had a PTO relay. The safety system was no longer hooked to the engine ignition. Just the PTO. Later though, they went back to the ignition style safety switches. (Not sure when they changed back. You know the machines though.... the ones you have to set the brake on before dismounting or they shut off. ) Guess too many people were falling off the machine and it would keep going.
