I have used it in both gas and oil, and I think it does work. The briggs twin in one of the 582s I have used to have no power and it would blow most of the oil out of the breather on one cylinder. Since I put MMO in the gas and oil and worked it hard for a few hours, the power improved and the oil consumption decreased.
If you have a rod knock, it's not going to fix that. Nothing will reverse damage that has already been done. And if that really is a rod knock, I'm not sure how long I'd be running that, either. It's not a matter of if it will break, but when it will break.
