Default 682 electrical diagnosis help needed

I had just taken a test drive after repairing my trunnion ( many thanks to all who've posted repair tips, which were crucial to my success! ) shut it off and tried to re-start and it would not turn over at all, nothing. After checking voltage (12.48v) and connections with no luck I jumped the terminals on the solenoid and she cranked and fired right up. I'm guessing the solenoid may be bad or maybe the key switch? Maybe something else? I'm not sure. What would you say the proper way to pinpoint the culprit is? I have a multimeter and a brain, when it comes to starter circuits one works better than the other which explains why I need help . Thanks in advance
