You sure it was all oil? It could be gas leaking through the carb and into the intake down into the oil or a bad fuel pump too... Or just a bad PO who thought more oil is better. Keep an eye on it, if your oil keeps going up the stick and you aren't adding any, it's gas mixing in from somewhere. Other than that, sounds like you did OK.
