update: Had been waiting for the mailman to show up. I found a good deal on a used driveshaft, with both joints, and rubber boots in good condition. while waiting went over the tractor, and greased and tightened up everything I could find in the manual. First time I'd ever adjusted the two bolts on the front axle, those make a big difference in steering! Put everything together, and mowed a few laps before it rained before work this morning. Running great at the moment!

Only thing is the new fan. When I tighten the bolts down, the rubber boot has enough flex that I can see the plastic on the fan stretching. I don't want to break it, and have washers in there. Do I need a washer on both sides of the fan? I also, don't want to leave the bolts too loose.
