What tractor are dealing with? A couple possibilities
1: You had the PTO burn up
2: You had a wire short out
3: You had a belt burn up.
I would expect if the PTO burned out or a wire shorted out you would have a blown fuse, I would expect if you burned up a belt you would have smelled burning rubber. All that said we need more info.
