Over the many years, I have seen Ferrule's that were crushed beyond recognition, some actually split and a multitude of states of condition.
They are one of my least liked fittings.
In the early years of automobiles, they were popular, and in various configurations.
One of the things I don't like is if over tightened they can actually crush the tube they are installed on, causing it to not seal again, also making them near impossible to remove to try to replace.
In the position of this discussion, the suction tube is easily relocated/damaged/bent, when it came in contract with something ran over or high centered on a rock or something similar, and it leaks as we know.
hopefully a minor tightening will cure the problem.
