Default Larger coil pin in steering arm - narrrow frame

On my 125, I'm thinking of drilling and insert a larger 3/8" diameter coil pin in the upper steering arm and spindle to get rid of the slop there. The larger pin will replace the original 5/16" diameter pin. I had inserted a new 5/16 " coil pin but it did not help as much as I hoped. Good idea? Or will I weaken the spindle too much? Everything else in the steering system is in good shape.
