There is no compression release on opposed twins. you need to run a load test on your battery, not test your engine compression.
Also check that your battery cables are clean & tight.
If all those are good then check your solenoid & starter terminals to see they are clean and tight.
And it would also be good to mention what you are working on besides that it
came from yer great aunt that has no relevance to your problem
