If the bottom seal is installed correctly (lips faced down, not up) you won't blow the seals by pumping more grease. That is the design. Pump in grease, excess blows past the inverted seal lips on the bottom side.

If he told you that, reinforces my thoughts that the seals are inverted. I could be wrong.
