I tested them again today. I have a working hydro attached to a rear end on a wood cradle. The two relief valves in it were working. I ran the hydro with a drill and verified axles rotated as expected when the trunnion arm is moved.
I replaced one valve with one of the suspected failures (reverse side). Reverse no longer worked. Swapped the two valves. Forward no longer worked. Installed the second suspect valve. Neither direction worked. Replaced original valves, both directions worked.
So both auto relief valves are faulty.
Go figure.

Me figures maybe you are not getting "the real picture" with the slow rpms of a drill motor.
Try them in an actual Gt operating under normal circumstances.
Just trying to think out of the box.
