Default 2000 Series - Larger Tires for Deck Clearance?

I just picked up a one-owner 2206 with 505 hours on it. The machine is in really good shape overall with only a few cosmetic blemishes.

My biggest complaint is that the mower deck really doesn't raise much at all. It won't go above "5" on the lift handle, but I don't know if that's normal or not. However even with the wheels raised as high as they can be on the corners, they still seem to catch every other rock on the gravel driveway.

The original front tires are almost slicks, so my thought was the forego the 16x6.50-8s and instead go for 18x7.50-8 tires to gain some much-needed clearance. The back tires are in decent shape, but I'm thinking about 25x10.50-12s or 26x12-12s to get the whole thing a bit higher.

Any thoughts on this or anybody who's gone with bigger than stock on these 2000s?

Thanks!
