Checked it out and could hear the plunger clicking when I turned the key. I know that doesn't mean it was working when it was hot but it's not dead.
Regarding removal of the solenoid, I can see there is no access to the screws so I'm guessing the carb has to be removed? Just 2 bolts for the carb?
I saw it mentioned several times here to remove the solenoid and cut off the plunger but I decided against that for now since it starts up real easy when it's cold. Should it ever die at least I'll know what I'm up against.
