MattC, the "button" style mufflers are always going to be louder than the elongated OEM mufflers because there is less distance for it to muffle. I've seen guys run pipes down the sides and out the back of their cubs (got to be careful about clearances for attachments/implements. Their cubs are very quiet, comparatively to the button style mufflers. Extensions, as Adam already mentioned, is a way to help quiet it down a little, but not much. Be careful putting a stack on. This issue has come up in the past and some members said that the longer stack can lead to a crack in the block around the exhaust, if it is not braced properly. Like operating any piece of loud piece of machinery, the best thing you can do to help quiet the noise is to invest in some safety ear muffs.
