Time to close this one out, thank goodness. The crank but no start turned out to be a wire I must have left loose under the shield, and the fan blades or something must have gotten a hold of it because it was all chewed up and insulation stripped off. A quick fix with some watertight disconnects and fresh wire to bridge between the factory disconnect and the frayed end...and we're back in business.

The freshly painted tins go on next, and it might be time for a photo!
