Some shortcuts to think about:
Instead of cutting the engine starter mounting bracket, I knocked the nose off the orig. starter, since it was hitting the scrap heap anyway. The gear reduction does not have this obtrusive casting to get in the way.
Make sure you accurately place the hole in the engine mount plate for the positive lug of the new gear reduction unit, and make sure it's big enough to prevent short circuits, and therefore a very bad day.
