It all depends what you are going to do in the garage or shop. IF you are going to have or use Flammable Liquids, then you certainly don't want anything with an open flame.

If your area is not that tight, vent-less gas heaters are OK, in that "oxygen depletion" in not a major factor for "non living" use.

Carbon Monoxide is something to consider. Things like construction tightness, and length of stay (or work) in that heating environment are some things to consider. If you go vent-less, please do yourself a favor and get a CO detector.
