And my biggest curiosity is, is the cast iron BDU-10 significantly stronger or more capable than my aluminum case variant?
I bought a 2206 In 2002. Basically it had an aluminum Trans Case with a BDU10 Pump, the 2518 at the time Had a Cast iron Trans Case with a BDU 10 Pump. But the 2206 was the One the wife wanted, and it Kept Her from abusing My John Deere's (Long Story)

The 2206 came with a 48-inch deck standard, we also bought an OEM electric lift sleeve Hitch and an OEM 30-inch Hydraulic driven Tiller and Used it for 16 years. Never Had an Issue with it Pulling any Briny sleeve Hitch Implement IE 10-inch Plow, Cultivator or Brinly Box scrape. Which when I was working for Uncle Sam as a Civilian Military advisor (retired Master Sergeant US Army) and was gone between 2005 through 2007 she would plow snow with the Rear Box scrape with the ends and Teeth removed and Just use it as a 38-inch rear Blade to Move snow (we Never Bought the OEM 42-inch Front Blade). If You Put Bigger rear rims and 23X rear tires Might Need the Bigger front tires, forget what your tractor came with in the front. You'll basically have a single cylinder 2206, and it Can use any of the attachments that the 2206 could use such as the OEM electric Lift sleeve Hitch, 30-inch Hydraulic tiller, 28-inch Mechanical tiller with electric lift The Current Manual Lift sleeve Hitch for the XT3 series and Just about any Brinly sleeve Hitch Implement

Though it can be kind of Hard to find the OEM 30-inch Hydraulic Tiller, OEM electric lift sleeve Hitch and especially the 28-inch Mechanical tiller. The 28 Inch seems to Be rare to find

Since the OEM electric lift sleeve Hitch can also be Hard to find, You could Put this sleeve Hitch https://www.johnnyproducts.com/J_Buc...eeve_Hitch.htm On Your Tractor it Very close to the OEM electric Lift sleeve Hitch

Basically the Aluminum Trans (final drive) had the same Internal components for the most Part as the Cast Iron Trans on the 2518 Basically the same Transmission except for the Outer Cases. Basically the Cast Iron Case was a Marketing Gimmick or Touch of nostalgia of the Old IH Cub Cadet Marketing of a Cast Iron Transmission case, and it worked well That why the 2000 & 2500 series had Very High sales Numbers, out sold the 3000 series by leaps and Bounds. That why You see the XT3 series today with a Cast Iron case. To still give it that touch of nostalgia of the IH Cub Cadets of the past
