I have a 13 year old car that just had the alternator replaced.
I chose not to do it myself bcause I knew that the radiator, right front inner fender, belt tortioning unit, and a myriad of other crap had to be removed just to get to the alternator.
It took the mechanic 4 hours, and the first alternator he put in (new out of the box) was bad, so he had to do it twice. The second time only took him 3 hours.

Do you really think engineers give a rat's ass about easy access for things that they design???
