Learning with a Cadet
Last year I picked up a 1977 Cub Cadet 1650 with a 50A deck and snow thrower in good shape. The paint is a little rough but in good shape. So far I've been learning how simple these machines are and also how useful they are! I am also a newbie on riding lawn mowers in general but I learn quick.
I'm still reading way more than I post but I want to keep this Cadet running well and see if I can't improve things a little as well. This has been a great source of information. The only things that happened so far is I found out what a flex disc is and also what happens when they tear out. I was mowing my leaves which is a customary activity in Michigan during the fall. I hit something that stopped the blades (new house and I didn't know what was in the yard but I wanted grass in the spring) and it snapped. I got it back into the garage and fixed it this spring. If there are any good tips on tuning up and keeping this thing in tip top shape I would greatly appreciate it.
Also I want to get a rear 3 point lift and try to find the tiller. I've found a few and it looks like work but I would love to have a machine that helps me take care of the couple of acres I now have. I'll also be learning more about lawns in general. It's always been a push mower and very little landscaping/care for me.
I love how this machine cuts grass! I do have a little bit of a problem with blade speed being kept up and I'm worried the engine might be wearing out. Of course I have no idea what else to check besides greasing the deck and making sure the belt wasn't slipping (tension on the pto belt is correct, I think). I did sharpen the blades before heading out for grass the first time.
Thanks for the great source of info and hopefully you guys can bring me up to speed. I'm handy with a wrench and I'm not afraid to grab my welder and improve things.
