A "clicking" solenoid does not necessarily mean that it is healthy enough to power the starter. I would say that it is suspect, or the starter motor is drawing loads of amps due to it being bad, or the engine is turning over hard. Ensure that the engine spins over freely. I had one get enough fuel in the cylinders that it hydro-locked.
