A battery "tender" or "maintainer" is not a battery "charger".
It is meant keep a battery fresh by trickle charging a low current, only when needed, to maintain the battery's float voltage.

If you are applying a "tender", only on occasion to, a battery that has degraded over a period of time from sitting, you are over taxing the "tender", not doing the battery any good, and wasting your time.
