Thank you! That's how I put the 89" belt on but it only lasted a couple of mowings. But that was a cheap, wrong belt, didn't want to risk shredding the OEM belt too. It was the only way I could see it working. For all of good engineering on a Cub, I would have thought they would have made the belt change easier.
If this belt shreds, over the winter I'm going to put a idler pulley on the deck or mule frame to let the belt go around the height adjuster, and use a slightly longer belt to make belt changes easier.
I bought the 1862 used because I mow a 2 acre field and the zero turn is not up to it.
