Voltage regulators for the older Cub Cadets can be an adventure. The regulator on my 125 went out back during the winter, so I ordered one from one of the advertisers on here. It came, I installed it and it worked for a couple minutes, then quit. It had all the right numbers on it, but was obviously not the right one.

I went to the local starter/generator shop that had always been dependable, told them what I needed, they said they had it and I brought it home. I hooked it up, but it didn't work. I called the shop and talked to the owner, he said "bring it back and bring the generator". He hooked it up on his test bench, checked out the generator, which was OK, but sure enough, it didn't work for him either.

He then called the manufacturer and was told that "some units were wound wrong and got out into stock". So he tried another manufacturer, hooked it up on his test bench and that one worked.

Moral of the story: just because the numbers are right, doesn't mean it will work. You may have to try a few different regulators to get the one you need.
