A switch has a contact that is either open or closed
Generally, they are designed to fail in a safe manner, for example, if your foot needs to be on the clutch when you start the engine, if that switch fails, it will fail in a manner that behaves like your foot is not on the clutch
Once you figure that out, it is easy to test.
