The ball (#22 in the picture) is used in the gear drive tractors with a clutch to support the driveshaft form being forced rearwards by the clutch action
With a hydro, no need.
As for flex discs, one at each end is factory but some folks opt to double them up for more rigidity. Your choice to do if you want it.
