From what I have read on some pulling sites the m-18 and m-20 are the same except the crank and pistons. According to them the m-20 has a longer stroke with shorter pistons. They were putting the m-20 crank and pistons in the m-18 blocks to make more power. I think they had an 18 hp rule. I wish I could find that site again.
And I don't think the 24 hp vtwin will have any more working torque than the m-18 or 20. If he does settle for the rebuild of the m-18, he can apply most of the methods that are in the killer Kohler build to it except the cam of course. Then he would have a real nice running m-18 and should have all the power he would need.
