Like i said,if you have to take it to a shop it might be $20+,but i would take your cylinder with you to and get some ends to go on the tractor(you said they might be off a jd)and try it,if its bad see how much it will cost to fix it,and if its too much try what jbollis said and look for a older deck lift cylinder if you can find one for $15 or so.
