A brush hog type of mower would be ideal.
As far as fire suppression, any dry vegetation will burn, the only answer to that is bare ground.  |
I've mowed it with a deck for years, it works just fine for the purpose.
Our entire area burned a couple years ago and let me tell you, there is an absolutely huge difference in the areas that were maintained this way and those that were just allowed to grow wild.
