Before you give up completely on the OEM cylinder there is something you can try. I had one 3000 series that had a similar issue and found that the cylinder rod had come unscrewed from the internal piston. Disconnect the power steering cylinder from the steering arm on the left front, then lossen both hydraulic fittings enough so they leak fluid. Take an empty gallon oil jug and cut the side open so you have drain pan to catch the fluid. Now push the rod into the cylinder while turning it clockwise. Sometimes people have tried "adjusting" the steering by turning the rod and have ended up with this issue.

I didn't look at Oak's link but new aftermarket cylinders can be had $100. Definitely save the machine - I have 4 and love them.
