If you disconnect the negative wire from the coil and intermittently ground the negative coil terminal to ground you should get spark at spark plug. That is after making sure you have 12 volts at positive terminal of coil. If you have spark when doing this procedure your issue will be points or the wire that runs from coil to points may be grounded out where it enters the points cover. If you do not have spark when doing this procedure you have a bad coil.
