I realize this is an older thread but I had a similar issue with my i1046 and wanted to post how I fixed it.
My i1046 ruined the pulley on the left side spindle. I purchased and installed a new spindle. It took all of 10 minutes to cut the shaft on the new one in half just below the upper nut. At that point I knew something else was causing the problem.
What I found is the two idler pulleys pivot on the same shaft and that pivot was rusted still. I pulled it all off, used a Dremel to remove the rust, put it back together and oiled the pivot. It has worked perfectly since then.
I did research buying new parts and one of the three involved was no longer available. At that point, I made the decision to clean up the original parts.
