The gear drives have the fill plug in a different spot, so if you put one on a hydro, your fluid level would be too low. I have never heard of any having a drain in the rear cover, but I think the gear drives, at least some of them, had a drain in bottom of the trans casting. That’s probably what you are thinking about. As far as adding a sight glass, I think that would be more work than it’s worth. Just pop the fill plug out, if fluid runs out your good. If it doesn’t, add some until it does. I agree with George, better to just take the cover off and clean it out.
