Chip:

The first Cub Cadet SGT was the IH 982. That was developed in 1979.

When IH sold out in 1980, CCC kept on producing the 982 with other options, ie: Rear PTO and CAT 0 Hitch, and or both (982, 984, & 986)

Then came the 1912 & 1914. After that it was the 1872 and 2072 and that took the model offerings into the late 80's.

The only model that had the Cast Iron Rear Rear was the IH 982. Cast Iron rear end stayed until serial number 719,999.

At serial 720,000 the Aluminum Rear Ends are introduced and other changes.

Since I do not own a SGT (but would like a IH 982), other members can comment on subsequent models, and the pros and cons.
