I'm pretty sure the OEM pulley is actually 4.5" in diameter, which is closer to what was on there than what you installed. If you add a smaller pulley, make sure all of the rotating parts are in excellent condition. Grease often. Oh, and only use a cast iron pulley so nobody gets hurt.
