Setting the gap @ .020 is a fail safe you still need a timing light to make sure it bang on.

Bad ammeter will cause grief.... Thats why i remove them and re-wire in a voltmeter. Why kohler wired these engines to die when the ammeter blows is beyond me !

THANKYOUTHANKYOU THANKYOU FORD_LGT_165 In all my dealing i have never seen such or for that matter heard of such!! Just goes to show there's always somebody out there that a person can learn from ! Sorry I'm typing slower than usual i seem to have sprung a leak in one of my fingers after the fight with the amp meter but its now over the hill along with all the bad words & motors purring like a half sick cat with distemper ! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I feel sorry for you ford_lgt_165 if you went through what i have the last lil bit ! but if you hadn't then you couldn't have solved my problem ! maybe someday i can pay it forward to someone? & ill have to give you an I O U till maybe we meet sometime ! thank you again ! I have put a charger on the battery & decided to quit for the day & start fresh tomorrow on fine tuning thanx all you guys its good to know friends have got your back !!!
