First check to see if it is just a loose output shaft-to-u joint connection.
To dissamble the gear box:
Take the thrower off the tractor, seperate the thrower from the mule drive
as it is easier to work on.
The two u joints/shaft will come apart at the spline where they slide in/out.
Take off the drive pulley from the gearbox input shaft. ( 1 or 2 set screws in pulley)
Remove the gearbox from the mounting plate,(4 bolts) after the gearbox cover is off,and you have the box in the vise, take the snap ring off the shaft that holds the gear on.
Using a drift (5/8 dia works well) drive the shaft out of the gear, then progressing, out of the inner bearing.
Progressing further, it may come out of the outer bearing or the bearing might come out with it.
Do not mall/swell the end of the shaft where the snap ring is at, or it will not come out of the gear and inner bearing.
The output shaft comes out the same way, the u joint is retained on the output shaft with 2 set screws & a cotter pin.
It is best to remove both and clean things up and replace worn/rough bearings/seals/or shafts.
The gears are no longer avail from cub but bearings/shafts/seals are after mkt.
This should get you to where things are self explanitory
