Ok, I'll bite...
I turned a 580 (yellow/white 582 special) into a 582 by installing an IH gear drive rear and clutch. The peerless trans is definitely inferior compared to the IH 3-speed rear. It weights a lot less than an IH rear. To replace the axle seals, you must remove the hubs from each axle, which rust on so tight you wouldn't believe. I don't think they are as strong as the IH rear; I put the rear from this tractor up for sale locally, and someone paid me a lot to ship it to Maryland because his tractor's rearend broke and he couldn't find one locally. The parts must not be as easy to find as you think. I've also seen a lot of other people looking for rearends or parts for the rears. Besides, a REAL tractor doesn't have a belt clutch. If the peerless trans is so great, why isn't everybody using them for tractor pulling like they do with the CC rears?
