Can you use another flange on the inside or outside, trying to remember where the two go (think its the outside) instead of using washers? Cut the inside of the flange so it doesn't rest against the bearing or the other flange - just make it into a large washer with 3 square holes in it. That way you don't have to weld anything and it should keep it all flat. Just a thought. But I would have to go look at mine to make sure what I just said will work. Just throwing it out there.
