my guy (dealer) has been out of pocket all day today, but he finally got back while ago and called me... he's thinking its a low voltage problem... maybe the battery is bad, even though it shows 12V, it may not hold the amperage under a load... its the original battery...
i'll work on it in the morning...
thanks...

for what it's worth, and as reference for those that may encounter this problem in the future...
YES, my guy was RIGHT! i put a new battery on (can you believe the prices of batteries these days? abt twice what i remember paying for the last one) and the mower fired up, the blades engaged, and i mowed all afternoon yesterday.
i thought i'd add this to the discussion because i haven't found this actual solution being discussed anywhere... all i found was references to a PTO clutch problem.
this dealer made a great call on this, he could have soaked me good on a repair bill because i was clueless... the reason i've done business with him for 15 years +/-. the reason we've put 2 new cub cadets on the farm in the past 3 years... i've started using the TANKS instead of finish mowers, its a lot handier, they're more agile than tractors, and i can get the jobs done quicker.
i wish they made one i could bush hog with :-)
seey'all next time!
