for what it's worth, and as reference for those that may encounter this problem in the future...

YES, my guy was RIGHT! i put a new battery on (can you believe the prices of batteries these days? abt twice what i remember paying for the last one) and the mower fired up, the blades engaged, and i mowed all afternoon yesterday.

i thought i'd add this to the discussion because i haven't found this actual solution being discussed anywhere... all i found was references to a PTO clutch problem.

this dealer made a great call on this, he could have soaked me good on a repair bill because i was clueless... the reason i've done business with him for 15 years +/-. the reason we've put 2 new cub cadets on the farm in the past 3 years... i've started using the TANKS instead of finish mowers, its a lot handier, they're more agile than tractors, and i can get the jobs done quicker.

i wish they made one i could bush hog with :-)
