The 42 in the ID lets you know the cutting width. But there are decks that have to be pinned on or bolted on and then there are decks that can be put on with what is called a Quick Attach that is a much faster way of putting the deck on. Some decks had cast iron ends and front and others were heavy guage stamped steel. There are decks for Narrow Frame mowers and then there are decks for Wide Frame mowers.
