I have read and it makes sense to me. If you are going to the expense with time and materials to open up a Kohler, you always change out the Governor and Connecting Rod even if they look good. Neither are very expensive but will turn into a big problem if they let go after wards. This of course, is up and above any other issues that are found and need to be addressed.
