All this talk about decks made me take a look at the 44c I have on the 582.It did not have an oem belt on it.It was a blue gates belt.I noticed when I put the deck on in the beginning of the summer that the adjustment rod stuck out a little more each time I mowed ,so I adjusted the belt till I ran out of adjustment this weekend.So I looked at the mule drive pulleys and the were pitted from previous rust buildup.I hit them with a wire brush before putting the used belt that came with the deck before I mounted it.The deck pulley was heavily pitted and between the two began to wear out the belt.
So off with the pulleys on the mule drive and were replaced with better ones from a donor,Then I took off the deck and replaced it with one with a smoother pulley.I have an new oem belt for it,and I figger I better take care of this before I ruin a 45.00 belt.Well next thing you know I looked at the underside and it needed some cleaning up,wire wheeled it and then hit with some primer and paint.Just letting it dry for a few days before I use it and see,hopefully the belt last.
