Smile Hydraulic Unit on a 123

Just got a complete hydraulic unit and manual. The manual said that I need to cut off the lift handle assembly.....Yikes!!! I hate to cut into original parts. Is this absolutely necessary or is there some other way of getting this hydraulic unit hooked up by slipping the handle assembly off. Of course, I could just buy a second lift handle assembly and cut into it and swap it out.....any other ideas? Also, why does the manual recommend that I drill three holes on the opposite side of my frame, even though no bolts or ancillary parts get attached on the driver's LHS to install this unit. Hydro 67.....can you offer any advice or pictures of your set-up? Thanks!!!
